HUCKBOLT®

Back to Fastener Specific Archive

Huckbolts®, commonly refered to as Hucks, are a type of blind bolt or structural blind fastener. They are a type of high-strength fastener commonly used in aerospace, automotive, construction, and other industries, and consist of a threaded pin and a collar that are installed by being swaged or mechanically compressed together. Unlike traditional bolts, which require access to both sides of the joint for installation, Huck-bolts are installed from one side only. This unique feature makes them ideal for applications where access is limited or restricted.

Huckbolts® are commonly used in aerospace applications, including aircraft assembly, maintenance, and repair. The aerospace industry demands fastening solutions that can withstand extreme conditions, including high levels of vibration, shear, and tensile loads. Huck-bolts excel in these areas, offering exceptional strength and reliability even in the most demanding environments. They are commonly used in aircraft structures, wing assemblies, fuselage panels, and other critical components where safety and performance are paramount.

The various types of HUCKBOLTS® include:

  • BOBTAIL®: Boasting unmatched installation speed, often under 2 seconds per fastener, it utilizes unique low-swage technology, ensuring lightweight and ergonomic tooling. With its no-break-off pintail, it offers the highest corrosion resistance in its class and requires only quick visual inspection for quality assurance.
  • C50L®: Designed for heavy-duty applications, it delivers superior vibration resistance and overall durability, meeting or exceeding torqued bolts in shear and tensile strength, and fatigue life. It offers consistently high and uniform clamp force for reliable performance.
  • C6L®: Stronger, easier to install, and more durable than welding, it features an exclusive locking 6-groove design and high-uniform clamp for a secure, permanent fit. Ideal for general manufacturing, HVAC, trailer, container assembly, and railroad and transit cars.
  • Hucktainer®: Incorporating an integral seal to prevent element invasion, it ensures joints are never over-torqued or under-torqued and provides tamper resistance.
  • Magna-Grip®: Offering the highest level of vibration resistance, it consistently delivers high and uniform installed values. Its wide grip range can replace up to 4 traditional Huckbolts®, making it versatile and efficient.

Traditional Removal Methods:

Removing Huckbolts® using traditional methods can be time-consuming and labor-intensive. It typically involves drilling out the bolt and manually extracting the remnants, which can damage the surrounding structure and components.
