Bombardier Global Express Flap Bulletin

The E-drill is being used in support of the recent Service Bulletins regarding Bombardier Global Express Flap drainage and corrosion issues. Bombardier released multiple Service Bulletins (SBs) calling for the inspection and replacement of the inner flap spigot bushing on all Global aircraft. To replace the spigot bushing, each inboard flap must be deskinned, which involves removing hundreds of titanium fasteners from composite skins.

E-DRILL- THE FASTENER REMOVAL TOOL OF CHOICE

Perfect Point was approached in 2018 as a method to assist in the removal of hard metal fasteners from composite flight control surfaces due to the release of a service bulletin involving the inboard flaps of all Global aircraft. The removal of hundreds of titanium “blind-bolt” fasteners was wreaking havoc on the aircraft and workforce. E-drill was sought as a solution to these problems.

E-DRILL'S UNIQUE CAPABILITIES

E-drill’s unique hand-held EDM Technology offers an accurate removal process that cannot be matched by the traditionalmethod of drilling. E-drill uses precision locating tools, electrodes, and depth controlled cutting to ensure every cut staywithin the fastener and stops at a computer-controlled depth– which reduces the rate of damage to less than 1% during the project. By bringing E-drill into the work center, companies can increase the throughput of these components andreturn the aircraft to the customer in a timelier manner.
